Murderbot is an Apple TV+ sci-fi series centered on a self-aware, sarcastic security android (Alexander Skarsgård) that hacks its own governor module to gain free will. Rather than launching a robot uprising, it just wants to be left alone to binge-watch soap operas all while hiding its autonomy and protecting its human clients. To capture the pulpy, intellectual soul of the show, I drew inspiration from the iconic Penguin and Pelican science book covers of the 1970s.

The title sequence begins with raw data visualized through graphic patterns that oscillate and undulate before dissolving into fluid, abstract forms. As the android processes this information, it coalesces into a singular orb of light that we follow into a massive, psychedelic explosion. This kaleidoscope of painterly graphics eventually morphs into the iris of an eye; we pull back to reveal we’ve been inside the android’s consciousness the entire time.
