Black Math
I recently had the honor of designing for Nature, the world’s leading scientific journal. Published weekly by Springer Nature, it’s a global authority on everything from groundbreaking tech to foundational science. For this specific issue, the spotlight was on Surface EMG; a fascinating, painless method of measuring the electrical “conversations” between our nerves and skeletal muscles.
Capturing the “invisible” data of kinesiology and muscle timing required a bold creative pivot. I opted for a retro-modern style, blending double-exposure techniques with a vibrant, psychedelic color story. By injecting a bit of mystery into the composition, I was able to distill a highly technical subject into a powerful, iconic image that feels both nostalgic and futuristic.
